Take Action

As the world strives for a safe climate, giant multinational AES has not set dates for retirement of its coal and gas units and even worse, is expanding gas power, a huge driver of global warming.

In February 2022: AES announced its intent to exit coal by year-end 2025”.

It stated in its 2021 Annual Report to shareholders and investors that it was “taking action to develop the solutions that enable rapid, global decarbonization faster and more effectively than ever before.”

We need to hold AES accountable to this commitment by firmly insisting they exit coal and gas while supporting their efforts to build more renewable energy and storage projects. The fact that AES continues to operate 29 dirty carbon belching power plants all over the world shows that they are a significant contributor to climate change. Even worse though is their plan to build new gas-powered generation and transportation infrastructure. Gas is a bridge to nowhere.
